Vascular Diagnostics

At AH&VC, we offer a range of in-office vascular diagnostic tests to assess blood flow and detect potential issues in your arteries and veins. These non-invasive tests are crucial for identifying problems early, such as blockages or poor circulation, allowing us to provide treatment before complications arise. By gaining a clear picture of your vascular health, we can create a personalized care plan to address any circulation problems and help you maintain your overall health.

Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI)

Often referred to as an ABI, this quick test compares blood pressures in your ankles and arms.  It helps detect peripheral artery disease (PAD), a condition that can reduce blood flow to your legs. It's the first step in detecting circulation issues and may be followed by more detailed testing if needed.

Vascular Ultrasound

Often referred to as a duplex or doppler ultrasound, this test uses sound waves to create detailed images of your blood vessels and measure blood flow. It helps detect blockages, clots, or circulation issues in your arteries and veins.

Unlike the ABI, which gives an overall screening for circulation issues, vascular ultrasound provides a closer look at specific areas to detect blockages, clots, or other problems. We offer three types of vascular ultrasounds:

Carotid Duplex

This test evaluates the blood flow in the carotid arteries in your neck, helping to detect blockages that may increase the risk of stroke. It’s commonly ordered for patients with risk factors for stroke or with symptoms like dizziness, vision changes, or numbness in the face or limbs.

Arterial Duplex

This test focuses on blood flow in the arteries, particularly in the legs, to identify the location and severity of blockages. It’s often ordered for patients with symptoms of peripheral artery disease (PAD), such as leg pain, cramping, or coldness in the lower legs.

Venous Duplex

This test evaluates the veins in the legs to check for blood clots or varicose veins. It’s commonly ordered to diagnose conditions like deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in patients with leg swelling, pain, or tenderness in the calf or thigh.

If you’re concerned about your circulation or vascular health, schedule a consultation with our cardiologist to see if these tests are right for you.
