Jennifer Mata, APRN-CNP

Jennifer Mata, NP – Cardiology Nurse Practitioner

Jennifer’s journey in medicine began as a surgical scrub technician in orthopedic surgery, where she found joy in being part of the surgical team and helping patients through critical moments. In 2014, she pursued nursing to expand her role in patient care, earning her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Monroe County Community College. She continued her education at Spring Arbor University, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in 2016 and her Master’s Degree as a Nurse Practitioner in 2019.

When asked how she transitioned from orthopedics to cardiology, Jennifer explained that while she loved her role in surgery, she felt drawn to providing care that focused on the whole person, managing overall health rather than just one area. Cardiology had always interested her, and when the opportunity arose, she took a leap of faith into

the specialty. Looking back, she believes everything fell into place as it was meant to, and she’s found fulfillment in helping patients improve their heart health and live their best quality of life. Jennifer has been with AH&VC for 5 years and credits Dr. Abdulmalik and Dr. Alroaini with teaching her the hands-on skills and practical knowledge  that have shaped her approach to patient care. Their guidance, combined with her dedication, has shaped her into a confident and compassionate nurse practitioner who provides holistic, patient-centered care.

Get to Know Me

In her free time, Jennifer enjoys gardening, baking, and cooking big family meals. She also loves reading a good book and recently discovered a passion for weightlifting. One of her favorite places to visit is the Smoky Mountains, a destination she loved so much that she returned for her 30th anniversary. If she weren’t a nurse practitioner, Jennifer could see herself as a bakery owner, whipping up all types of bread—like sourdough and blueberry—and sharing her love of baking with others. Around the office, her pecan pie is legendary and a favorite treat among the staff.

Jennifer believes the most important part of patient care is tailoring treatment plans to meet each person’s unique health goals. When asked what she wants her patients to know, she said, “I might not always have the answers right away, but I will always do my best to find out. I’m not afraid to ask questions or collaborate with the doctors to make sure we’re doing what’s best for you.” This kind of honesty and willingness to learn inspires trust, and it’s one of the many reasons patients feel confident in her care.
